Feature — Design engine
3D rooftop solar design software that produces a client-ready layout in 45 seconds
Last updated:
SolvSolar's design engine turns a customer's electricity bill into a panel-by-panel rooftop array, a string plan, a bill of materials and a compliance-ready single line diagram — in one pass, with no CAD skills required. Every number the client sees on the proposal is derived from the same design object, so the layout, the kW rating and the payback maths can never disagree.
Subsidy and interconnection rules are applied automatically through built-in DISCOM and subsidy rules for 20 regions, including PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in India and US federal incentive modelling for commercial and lease/PPA systems. The 30% residential credit (§25D) ended for systems placed in service after Dec 31, 2025. Commercial projects and third-party-owned (lease/PPA) systems may still qualify under §48E, subject to deadlines. Confirm with a tax professional.

What does the design engine actually produce?
| Design step | Typical manual workflow | SolvSolar | What drives the result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Array layout (2D + 3D) | 30–90 minutes in CAD | ≈ 45 seconds | Roof area, tilt, module wattage, row/column grid |
| Single line diagram | 20–40 minutes | Included in the same pass | String count and inverter selection |
| Bill of materials | 15–30 minutes in a spreadsheet | Auto-costed, inline editable | Module, inverter, BOS and structure rates |
| Shade-adjusted generation | Separate simulation tool | Recalculated live | Per-face shade loss and location irradiance |
| Subsidy + payback maths | Manual lookup per state | Applied automatically | DISCOM ruleset, PM Surya Ghar, US commercial incentive modelling |
Methodology: Manual-workflow columns describe the tasks a designer performs without an integrated tool and are stated as ranges, not measured competitor timings. SolvSolar figures are median product timings for residential systems up to 100 kW.
Who is it built for?
Rooftop EPC companies, solar sales teams and independent installers who need an engineering-accurate design fast enough to close on the first site visit. The same engine runs from the web app, the WhatsApp bot and the Telegram bot, so a field salesperson without a laptop gets the identical output.

3D solar design — frequently asked questions
›How long does it take to create a 3D solar design in SolvSolar?
A complete 3D rooftop design takes about 45 seconds. You enter the monthly bill or target capacity, roof type and tilt, and the engine returns a panel-by-panel array layout, string plan, bill of materials and a single line diagram in one pass.
›Does SolvSolar account for shading and roof obstructions?
Yes. Each array block carries a shade-loss percentage that you set per roof face, and the generation estimate, payback period and proposal financials all recalculate from that value, so a shaded south-west face is never quoted as if it were clear.
›Can I edit the panel layout after it is generated?
Yes. Rows, columns, orientation, module wattage and the bill of materials are all editable inline, and the kW rating, inverter specification and financial pages update immediately from your edits.
›Do I need CAD experience to use the 3D design tool?
No. The layout is generated from plain inputs a salesperson already has — bill amount, tariff, roof type and available area — so the first usable design needs no CAD training. CAD-style controls stay available for engineers who want them.
›Is the 3D solar design tool free to use?
Your first proposal up to 100 kW is free. No card required. After that you either pay ₹10 per kW designed in India, $0.50 per kW designed globally, or take a monthly plan from ₹499 / $19.99.
›What file does the client receive?
A four-page, white-label PDF proposal: cover, system and 3D design, financial plan with subsidy and EMI maths, and terms with e-signature fields. It is also shareable as a live link over WhatsApp or Telegram.
