Homeowner questions
Is solar worth it for my bill?
Usually yes if your monthly bill is above about ₹1,500. A rooftop system can cut most of your daytime usage, and many Indian homes pay back the cost in 3–5 years. Use the calculator above for an estimate based on your own bill.
How much roof space do I need?
Plan for 80-100 sq ft per kW of shade-free roof area. A typical 3 kW home system needs about 240–300 square feet.
What subsidy can I get?
Under PM Surya Ghar, homes in India can get up to ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000. Some states add their own subsidy on top. Your installer will show the exact amount in your proposal.
How long does installation take?
Fitting the panels usually takes 1–3 days on site. Net-meter approval from your electricity company can add 2–8 weeks, so most homes are running within six to ten weeks.
What warranties should I expect?
Look for a 25-year performance warranty on panels, 5–10 years on the inverter, and a workmanship warranty from the installer. Ask for all warranties in writing.
How do I choose an installer?
Choose an installer that is registered for the subsidy scheme, shows a clear itemised price, uses approved panels, handles the net-meter paperwork, and gives written warranties. Ask to see past installations nearby.
