Soiling costs 3–8% of annual yield at dusty urban and industrial sites if panels are never cleaned, and can exceed that near construction or cement works. Fortnightly dry cleaning during dry seasons and monthly wet cleaning otherwise typically holds the loss under 2%. Rain-washed coastal and hill sites need far less intervention.
