DISCOM, Grid Codes & Net Metering

What is the difference between net metering, gross metering and net billing?

Reviewed by SolvSolar · Last reviewed:

Net metering credits exported units 1:1 against consumption, gross metering sells all generation to the utility at a fixed feed-in tariff, and net billing pays for surplus exports at a rate below the retail tariff. Under net billing and gross metering, self-consumption during daylight hours matters far more to the economics than raw system size.
